Chapter 24

In the command center of Great Falls, the atmosphere was thick with tension. The walls were lined with screens flickering with maps and real-time data, while the hum of machinery provided a constant backdrop. At the heart of it all, Leo stood at a sleek console, his gaze fixed on the central holographic display where the team’s intel was projected in vivid detail.

Bradley stepped forward, his expression serious as he addressed Leo. The holographic display shifted to show images of the Grinning Men’s encampment, the outlines of the wolf-like mercenaries clearly visible. “Sir,” Bradley began, his voice firm and steady, “we’ve confirmed the Greys’ intel. The Grinning Men are gearing up for a major assault. And these mercenaries—they’re formidable. Almost too much so.”

He tapped a few controls, zooming in on a section of the map that highlighted key points of interest. The display showed the mercenaries’ patrol patterns, their movements precise and aggressive. “They’ve got these wolf-like creatures patrolling in organized packs. They’re fast, vicious, and they’ve got the advantage in close quarters.”

Leo absorbed the information, his eyes narrowing as he took in the data. He could feel the weight of the upcoming battle pressing down on him. “What’s the best estimate on their numbers and positions?” he asked, his tone clipped but focused.

Bradley pointed to a red cluster on the map. “The mercenaries are concentrated here, right at the core of their defenses. They’ve got multiple layers of security, both physical and psychic. If we’re going to hit them, we need to do it smart.”

Leo nodded, turning to his advisors who were gathered around a strategy table. The table was cluttered with maps, tactical plans, and digital projections. The room was a hive of activity, as everyone worked to synthesize the new intel into actionable plans.

Leo rolled out a large map on the table, the surface glowing faintly as it was projected in three dimensions. The room fell silent, all eyes on the holographic display.

“I know everyone is expecting me to come up with some strategically brilliant tactic,” he said, smirking. “But after consulting pretty much everyone, I seem to always fall back on my tried and tested method of just fucking shit up.”

Sergeant Hayes burst into laughter. “That works for me,” he said, grinning broadly.

“Obviously I’m gonna get a bit more sophisticated,” chuckled Leo. “For one, we need to take out all their smaller bases first so there’s no chance of reinforcements.”

“We should use the fast attack craft and their respective teams for that,” said Mulgor, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

“Good call,” said Leo, nodding. “Can I leave that up to you?”

“Sure, your grace,” Mulgor replied, giving a slight bow.

Leo’s eyes scanned the map, highlighting the main base with a flick of his wrist. “Alright, listen up,” he said, his tone growing serious. “We hit their main base, and we hit it hard. No survivors, no mercy. We need to end this in one decisive blow.”

“Oorah,” said Hayes, his voice a growl of anticipation.

“You've all seen the new antigrav destroyers,” continued Leo.
